City of Kelowna

We offer affordable and interactive, demonstration-style cooking and gardening classes through the City of Kelowna’s recreation program. The produce and ingredients used in our classes is local, home-grown, organic, or from a quality source (for example, Parmigiano cheese or organic extra virgin olive oil). Our classes offer practical, but incredibly delicious recipes for the home cook who is looking for new ideas, techniques and inspiration.

Our gardening classes are based on organic gardening and Permaculture principles.

Regional District of the Central Okanagan:

We have worked with the Regional District of the Central Okanagan Waste Reduction department since 2009 to provide recycling and composting education for the public.

We are currently also working with the Regional District Parks department in partnership with the Central Okanagan Food Policy Council, to design and implement Kelowna’s first Food Forest! This is a long term project, however you will start to see changes in the garden area behind the EECO centre starting September 2013! Come out and enjoy the garden- we did it for you!

Central Okanagan Food Policy Council:

Elana has been a member of the Central Okanagan Food Policy Council since 2009 and was a board member for several of those years. Currently Growing Inspired is working with COFPC to design and coordinate the installation of Kelowna’s first Food Forest.

The Central Okanagan Food Policy Council’s goal is to foster food security and ecological sustainability in all that they do. Current major projects include the Fruit Tree gleaning Project, the Food Forest, and the development of a Community Farm. Members are also active throughout the community, providing gardening workshops for students and parents, and continually building relationships within the community.
