Roughly translating to “the things that we do”, the aim of the garden is to support Aboriginal student engagement and learning in a hands-on teaching space that specifically includes plants that have traditional uses and significance to the Sylix people. This was a collaborative project between 6 community partners including Westbank First Nation.

Project accomplishments:

  • Improved drainage through passive water management
  • Incorporated 47 varieties of Indigenous plants
  • Minimal irrigation required after 2 years
  • The garden is a pleasant space to wander through and a learning site for the campus, the wider Indigenous community, and for the general public.
